CONTENT 2: PORTFOLIO OF WORK

It has been a year since I continue my studies in Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur. There were a lot of assignments that I need to do in these past two semesters.

One of the assignment that I found interesting is developing a website. In the subject of 106CR Designing for Usability, I need to develop a website for a small business. I chose to develop a website for a business that sells custom made tote bags. I chose this business because I love drawing and I have some experienced drawing on tote bags. To develop the website, I used a software called Dreamweaver. It is easier to develop a website by using this software. I am totally a beginner because I have never use any kind of software like this before this. The picture below shows one of the process that I do while I develop my website using Dreamweaver.

There were a lot of coding that I need to know to ease my work. At first I only learned basic coding to help me understand what I am doing and after that, I learned more while I am working with Dreamweaver. There were also a lot of functions in this software that make my work easier.

This assignment made me need to use my creativity. I have to think not only from the way a website developer think but also how the website visitors will think when they visit my website. I must make the website looks interesting but at the same time I can not put to much fancy things in my website that can make the visitors confuse and cannot use the website properly.

Other than that, In subject 110CTN Object Oriented Programming, I have learned a  lot about coding in Java. We use a software called BlueJ to write the coding and compile them to make an output. If I make a mistake while writing the coding, it cannot be compiled until I correct it. Below is the example of the coding and the output. The coding is a Kilo Converter where I can change Kilometer into Miles.

From this assignments, I have been expose  on what I will need to work with in the future either as a Computer Science Degree student (where I might need this skill when I do my Final Year Project) or when I am working after I graduate.

CONTENT 3: TUTORING REPORT

Before I agreed to continue my studies in this Computer Science Course, anything that involve programming and software are the only career that I can think of that suitable for this course graduates which are of course Programmer and Software Developer or Software Engineer. But in this subject, I have been expose to more kind of career that is suitable for a Computer Science graduates.

Next, I also has been assigned to work in group of two and make a video about Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur. So, me with my group partner, Muhammad Amir bin Fauzi chose to make a video about the facilities in Kolej Poly- Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur from the ground floor until the the top floor.

Other than these, in my first class of this subject, I need to introduce myself in front of everyone in my class. And for sure I need to use English language to introduce myself.

In conclusion, by doing all of these assignments I can see my ability and skills. For example, by doing presentation I can know how much is my ability to explain about the presentation that I did , my talking skill, how I manage my nervousness  while I speak in front of people, how I attract people to be interested in what I am trying to tell and etc. While by working together to make the video, I learned on how to work as a team. Brainstorming ideas together and also changing opinion on which thing are better for our work. After knowing my weakness, I can improve myself and make a better presentation in other subjects. This kind of knowledge do not limit while I am studying only but I can also apply this ability and skills when I am working in the future.

SUMMARY ON 100CDE

SUMMARY

In the subject of 100CDE Professional Skills, students have been assigned to make a summary report about this subject. There was a lot of thing has been learned by student through this subject.

The first thing that student learn is about the difference of lifestyle between studying in college and school. This is because majority of the students was Form 6 student. Then, student also has been exposed to the Program Structure and Requirements, Levels, Modules, Credits and Awards in Kolej Poly Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur.

Then, students need to develop a curriculum. By doing this, student will get to know what is the right way to make a curriculum vitae and what are the right information that need to be put in a curriculum vitae.  A personal biography, a reflection and evaluation and academic achievements also need to be created by students.

After that, students need to develop a series of web pages portfolio. From this, students learned how to develop a blog and most of the students choose to use Blogger. After done developing their own blog, students posted their first entry which is the CV, personal biography, a reflection and evaluation and academic achievements. 

Students also make first presentation about where from this presentation they learned a lot about the presentation skills such as be competent rather than just a confident speaker, build an impressive Power Point slide show, be entertaining, slow down, eye contact,  summarize, do not read the slide solely, explain point through short story, project your voice breath in not out, come early before present, get practice more than twice, do apologize if you are wrong and most important have fun while do the presentation. Other than, working individual, students also learned to work in group where they need to produce a video about Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur.

Other than that, students also have been thought about ethical in academic conduct. From this topic, students learn more about copying and fair use, what people call as plagiarism and other form of cheating. This topic is also to remind students about the academic honesty, integrity and a respect of knowledge because doing plagiarism is wrong.

The last thing that students learned from this subject is about jobs in the Computer Science profession. This topic has opened the students mind because from this topic, students get to know more about professions that are suitable a Computer Science student and also make them think ahead about their future after they graduate from this institute. They also get to know more about the jobs.

In conclusion, from this subject students will get to connect the skills that they have learned with the real life situation and they can also apply the knowledge from this subject with other subjects.

CONTENT 5: ACADEMIC ISSUES

1.0 PLAGIARISM AND FAIR USE

Plagiarism is not a new thing in today's world. Even in the world where there are people with high intelligence, plagiarism still happens. This plagiarism activity also include students where they like to plagiarize other people's work and send the work under their name. As a student, they need to have ethic, all works or assignment must be done by themselves. It is different story if they only rephrase it from the internet. There is a huge difference between plagiarize and rephrase.

These are what I understand the difference between plagiarism and rephrase:

Plagiarize is where you copy other people's work 100% without put it as reference and claim it as your work while rephrase is when you copy other people's work from the internet or any source, but you put their name as reference.

Regardless of what I understand about plagiarism, I found a specific meaning of it from a website called plagiarism.org where many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work or borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise the seriousness of the offense. According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, to use (another's production) without crediting the source, to commit literary theft or to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

All of the following are considered plagiarism:

• turning in someone else's work as your own
• copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
• failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
• giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
• changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
• copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)

While the definition about Fair Use from Standford University Library said that in its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, fair use is a defense against a claim of copyright infringement. If your use qualifies as a fair use, then it would not be considered an illegal infringement. 

So, by using the plagiarism checker it is easy to know whether that work is original or has been plagiarized from other people's work. Here I use a website called paperrater.com to check my assignment.

First I paste my work into the box (refer to picture below) .

Then, I click the Get Report button and the result of your work's originality will come out!

There are a lot of applications like paperrater on the internet and most of them let people use it for free.

In conclusion, plagiarism need to be avoided moreover for a student. This kind of activity can be a habit where people or above all a student do it a lot. They will think that it is okay to do plagiarism as long as people do not notice. But they do not realise that have ruin their own moral value even if they do not get caught.

TECHNOLOGIES IN CLASS

Nowadays, technologies is no more in the desire category as it has become a necessity in today world and it is also has become necessary for students.

If back then a smart phone can be considered as a desired thing but now a smart phone can be necessity for a student as student can share information or communicate with other students and lecturers via WhatsApp either personally or in group. Students can also check the assignments question or any information that has been uploaded by the lecturers in the Facebook group.

Laptop is also a necessity for a students as students will need a laptop to do most of their assignments and to search informations for their assignments.

Other than that, as a KPTM KL students I have to take advantage on the technologies that have been provided for the students such as Content Management System (CMS) and Online Learning System (OLES). CMS is a site for students to check their subject so that they can do add-drop to their subjects and also to check for their class timetable while OLES is a website where students can download the assignments and notes that have been uploaded by the lecturers as this is the official site for the Kolej Poly-Tech Mara lecturers to upload the notes and assignments. After download the notes or assignments from OLES, I can either print out the documents or save it in my laptop.

ACTIVITIES IN KPTM

My first activity in KPTM is the orientation for the new intake. At first, I was quite shock as the number of the new intake students is so small and it is a lot different than what I imagined where there will be like hundreds of students, the orientation will be held like for a week and so on just like what a normal student will think of. But then, I was informed that this orientation of the new intake is only for the Computer Science course (but I still think the number of students are too little compared to normal number of students that you can imagine). I felt relieved that the orientation week was held only for 2 days. phewww~

Next activity is the MERDEKA-RAYA EVENT. This event is an event that I like because all of KPTM students was served with delicious food from Ketupat with kuah kacang until 'Kambing Golek' with blackpepper sauce. It was delicious but because of there was too many students queuing up I can not taste all kind of food that available on that day and it was quite disapointing me and my stomach.Hurm. But being able to eat with my friends kind of make me feel happy back.

I also joined the REHLAH AL-KHULUD programme. This is a programme about 'Pengurusan Jenazah' or how to manage a dead body for muslim. In this programme I learn a lot as there is a live demonstration on how to manage a muslim dead body especially for woman. Eventhough we have been though about this since we are in primary school,but by joining this programme I can gain more information and recall back what I have learnt before. It is also a preparation for future moreover as a child we have to know how to manage a muslim dead body moreover for our own family as it is our obligation as a muslim and a child.

And the latest activity that I joined is the photography for my class with my classmates. We took a formal picture and candid pictures together and it was fun.

CONTENT 4: REFLECTION WITH GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS

I am interested in comics, animation and anime . 

I love reading comics and my favourite comic is Lawak Kampus by Keith. I have all volume of Lawak Kampus that I shared money with my sister to buy each volume as we share the same interest. The latest volume of Lawak Kampus is volume 22. Lawak Kampus is the most successful artwork of Keith. This strip comic is a humor story about the life of LK school's students and teachers.

I also love to watch animation. In Malaysia, I love to watch the most popular 3D animation which is Upin and Ipin. I love to watch all products of animation from Les Copaque Production that is famous with Upin and Ipin as the animation from this production is so good to watch and the story line is not boring at all and most important the audience will get a lot of  moral values moreover for the kids. I also like to watch anime which is japanese animation as the animation is well drawn eventhough it is in 2D form. I love most of the animation from Studio Ghibli because the animation is so fascinating and full of fantasy moreover it is an artwork by Hayao Miyazaki which is one of the famous and greatest Japanese film and animation director. But I know without all of the team workers the anime can not be produce. 

It is good to read comics and to watch animation when I am feeling stress or boring as I also love to look at other people artwork.
